HOME OF THE COLTS
Welcome to Sunset Elementary School in Cody, Wyoming! We are located in the Big Horn Basin of northwestern Wyoming, 50 miles east of Yellowstone National Park. We are happy to serve kindergarten through fifth grade students from Cody and the surrounding areas.
Our Sunset teachers and staff focus on ensuring all students succeed at high levels by providing engaging, relevant, and meaningful work. We all understand that it truly takes a village to raise a child and we know the importance of uniting with parents and community partners to help every child succeed.
Along with a dedicated staff, our Sunset PTO is instrumental in supporting our students and endeavors at Sunset School. Parents and teachers work together to fund raise for unique needs and to offer engaging events for our students.
Spend a few moments perusing at our web site. We have information about our school, breakfast and lunch menus, school events and activities, and ways for parents to be involved. but powerful, Sunset Elementary School is a place where your child will gain a strong academic foundation and build good character along the way.
First, thank everyone for your support and understanding as we navigate the re-opening of our schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am proud of everyone within our school and family community as we continue to educate our students. While we are in the business of educating, our first priority is the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families.
At Sunset Elementary School, we are committed to making this school year a successful experience for every single student. At the forefront of this goal is the necessity of the home and school partnership, especially this year. Learning is a very complex endeavor! It involves, sharing ideas, making mistakes and attempting new challenging experiences. Learning involves an admirable work ethic by everyone, the staff, the parent, the principals, but most importantly the student!
At Sunset, we value and challenge each student and provide opportunities for success. Research and experience show us that a parent/guardian’s involvement in a child’s education directly relates to their success in school. This year, it is imperative that we all do the following:
●If your child exhibits symptoms of any illness, please keep them at home.
●Stay in constant contact with your child’s teacher.
●Read with your child or encourage your child to read daily.
●Support your child in their academic and social endeavors.
In addition, there are numerous volunteer opportunities in which you can be involved. Volunteers make a tremendously positive impact and enrich our school. Contact your child’s teacher, the front office, or the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) if you’d like to volunteer in any way.
I look forward to partnering with you to make the school year successful for you, our staff, and most importantly our students. Thank you for all of your support and commitment to our students, both academically but also with their health and well-being. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office at 307.587.4279.
Students achieve excellence with the skills, knowledge, and strength of character to succeed in a dynamic world.
In partnership with stakeholders, all students learn and persevere at high levels through student-centered work that is purposefully designed to be relevant and engaging.
With just over 300 students from kindergarten through 5th grade and only 20 students in our average classroom, we take pride in the fact that students can receive the one-on-one attention each needs from his or her teacher.
Our staff is dedicated to providing every student with the tools he or she needs to succeed. Sunset is home to the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Program, the Behavior Program, and the Life Skills Program.
If you ever have questions for us or would like to tour our campus, don’t hesitate to contact us or pay us a visit.
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT GOALS
All students will demonstrate growth towards proficiency in English Language Arts, supported by embedded technology.
All students will demonstrate growth towards proficiency in math computation, supported by embedded technology.
At Sunset Elementary School we use the conscious discipline model as a school-wide emotional intelligence, consciousness, and classroom management guide. Within this management guide, classrooms use the ladder system as an immediate consequence for appropriate as well as inappropriate behaviors.
The ladder system looks like this:
Loss of Recess
Students begin every day on ‘Good Job’ and move up and down this ladder dependent upon their behavior. We expect all Sunset students to display the Kid of Character traits at all times. Sunset Elementary School views discipline as an ongoing process that allows students to grow through attaining positive control over their actions and lives.
